Parents don't understand posted at 6:24 AM

"I call her, Mrs Pressure!"

Parents just don’t get it sometimes, and it gets absurdly annoying when they don’t. They think they know it all, they think they know what’s best for us. And the worst is, when they think that what they do and say is without flaw. I know what I’m going to say afterwards might make me sound like a typical teenager, but this is how I truly feel.

Firstly, parents do what they ask you not to do. Like for example, my father tells me not to eat with my mouth open, but he does that all the time. And me, who is tuned to eat with my mouth close gets really annoyed when I hear him making weird sounds with his mouth, like removing the remaining food stuck between his teeth with his tongue. Yet, I cannot say a thing because he’ll find something else to defend himself. Annoying.

Next, they think that they’re always right. They tell you, “I’ve walked this path before, I know what’s best.” Right. You know what’s best. You think what you see in the office isn’t what we see in school. Dear parents, you underestimate the twistedness of today’s society. It’s everywhere. Selfish people, two-faced bitches, every kind of person you’ve seen at work, we’ve seen in school. You think we’re not mentally strong enough to think about our futures for ourselves when in fact we are (sort of). I hate how parents now a day are just so money-minded; they don’t consider their child’s interests. Since young, they’ve been drilling us with thoughts like, “You have to become a doctor,” or “You have to study law,” But know that I’ve grown up, I feel really ashamed that adults in the society think this way because of the money. Doctors should aspire to be doctors because they want to save lives and lawyers should aspire to become lawyers because they seek justice. How are you supposed to put your heart and soul into something if you don’t have a pure interest and motive when doing the job? How? How to you enjoy and benefit from the job if all you think about is money?

They tell us, “I don’t expect much from you, really,” But when our results come out, they scold us like the world’s going to end. When we score well for a test, they expect more for the next. I supposed that’s human nature, that humans are all greedy. And when you don’t meet the established expectations, they get mad at you for not studying hard enough.

Lastly, they think we are constantly being influenced by our friends. We do have my own minds; we don’t get pushed around by my friends and follow whatever they say. Our interests are our own. My parents seem to think that all my interests are due to my friends influence when they are purely not. None of my other friends have the same interests. If you ask me, I’m probably the only teenager around who goes off ranting about how criminals are not being treated fairly enough and how they should be given fairer treatment in accordance to their mental health. Seriously, do you think every teenager looks up to the police force like I do?

Yet, ignoring what I just typed above, deep down, I do understand that all our parents want is the best for us. I understand that bit, that they want us to have a well-lit future.

But won’t parents try to understand how we feel?
